Joel has a broad spectrum of corporate work practice with an emphasis on cross-border private and public mergers and acquisitions, fund raisings, joint ventures, commercial agreements and general corporate advice across different industries. He has handled many domestic and cross-border transactions, with clients ranging from Singapore listed companies, venture capital and private equity funds to start-ups.
With a strong passion for the Start-Ups & Venture Capital space, Joel has advised a wide range of start-up companies and has also represented venture capital funds and large multi-national financial institutions.
Being both fluent in both conversant and written Chinese, Joel advises a number of Chinese corporations on domestic and cross-border transactions including corporate restructuring, joint ventures and day-to-day matters including on-going compliance obligations, license applications and employment matters.

Public M&A
- Advised an e-commerce enterprise based in Shanghai on its acquisition of a majority shareholding interest in a Singapore fresh fruit company listed on the SGX-ST by way of a private placement.
- Advised a consortium and its related parties in relation to its unconditional offer to acquire a majority shareholding interest in a Singapore healthcare company listed on the SGX-ST by way of a voluntary conditional offer.
Private M&A
- Advised the subsidiary of a German listed engineering company on the disposal of its business in Asia, including China, India, Indonesia, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam.
- Advised a French-based multinational conglomerate in relation to its acquisition of a Singapore-based digital transformation services provider, with businesses in Thailand and Philippines.
- Advised a London listed simulation and testing systems provider on the acquisition of a Singapore-headquartered supplier of automotive testing services in the Asia Pacific, with business in China, Germany, Japan and Spain.
Fundraise
- Advised an Indian cybersecurity startup that is headquartered in Singapore on its various rounds of fundraising.
- Advised Singapore's largest B2B marketplace for industrial and business supplies on its various rounds of fundraising.
- Advised a Philippines headquartered regional development bank in relation to its proposed investment in a Singapore headquartered technology-driven e-commerce logistics company.
Joint Venture
- Advised one of the world's largest power construction enterprises that is headquartered in China on its joint venture with a Singapore company in respect of jointly developing a power plant in Brazil.
- Advised a leading global Contract Research, Development and Manufacturing Organization that is listed on the Hong Kong Exchange on its joint venture with a leading China-based, global rare disease-focused biopharmaceutical company to develop and commercialize innovative rare disease drugs in the PRC and globally.
