Nicholas specialises in international arbitration, international litigation and arbitration-related litigation. Prior to co-founding Chua & Partners LLP, Nicholas started his practice in the Singapore office of a globally recognized international firm, before making Partner in one of Singapore’s foremost law firms.
Nicholas’ practice focuses on complex, multijurisdictional and high-value commercial and corporate disputes. He regularly appears in arbitrations (both ad-hoc and institutional) seated across Asia and internationally, such as Geneva, London, Mauritius, Madrid and Paris. He also has significant experience advocating before all levels of the Supreme Court of Singapore.
Nicholas represents a wide range of regional and multinational clients across various industries, including hospitality, technology and media, energy, construction and engineering, private equity and banking and financial institutions. He has also been active in numerous China-related disputes including shareholder and joint venture disputes, intellectual property and technology-related disputes.
In recent years, Nicholas has further expanded his practice in the emerging technology space. He has acted for various stakeholders – ranging from Web3-native companies, entertainment companies and esports leagues, cryptocurrency exchanges to DeFi protocol and distributed app (dAPP) developers. He was further involved in the investigation of cryptocurrency fraud and recovery of digital assets.
Nicholas has been consistently recognised as Asia’s Super 50 Disputes Lawyers by Asian Legal Business. In addition, he was selected for placement under the Supreme Court’s Young Amicus Curiae Scheme. He is a published co-author of the Singapore chapters of numerous publications including The International Comparative Legal Guides: Investor-State Arbitration and World Bank: Doing Business, Protecting Minority Investors in Singapore.
Nicholas is bilingual and has been invited to speak in seminars both locally and internationally in English and Mandarin.

- Representing a local subsidiary of a global technology leader in diversified power management solutions in an HKIAC arbitration seated in Hong Kong against its Thai distributor under a licencing agreement.
- Representing an ex-director of a company in liquidation against claims exceeding S$350 million for alleged breaches of fiduciary, contractual and/or statutory duties.
- Acting against the world’s second largest space company and one of the world’s top ten defence companies in an ICC arbitration seated in Madrid, arising out of a Consultant Agreement governed by English law.
- Representing a Hong Kong-based investment group with approximately US$1 billion assets under management in an SIAC arbitration against a Vietnamese real estate developer, relating to a joint venture agreement governed by Vietnam law to develop and manage a prime commercial building.
- Representing the environmental technology arm of one of Singapore's flagship multinational companies as the Main Contractor in an ICC claim seated in Paris exceeding USD$150 million against the Employer in connection with the construction of a major sewerage plant in Qatar.
