Sheryl has a broad commercial disputes practice, in both international arbitration and litigation.  She has represented clients in a variety of contentious matters like company and shareholder disagreements, construction disputes, defamation, employment issues, insolvency proceedings, investment conflicts, joint venture clashes and Web3 disputes.  Her clients are individuals, SMEs and MNCs, from a diverse range of industries including aerospace and defence, banking and finance, construction and infrastructure, healthcare, maritime and technology. 

Sheryl has acted as counsel in investor-state and commercial arbitrations seated in Singapore, Geneva, the Hague and Madrid.  Her broad experience includes arbitrations administered by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) and the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA).  She is regularly involved in arbitration-related litigation before the Singapore High Court, Court of Appeal and Singapore International Commercial Court (SICC).

Sheryl also has extensive experience in non-arbitration related litigation and mediation.  She has appeared before all levels of the Singapore courts, and has represented clients in ad hoc and institutional mediations like the Singapore Mediation Centre (SMC) and the Singapore International Mediation Centre (SIMC).

Besides contentious work, Sheryl has advised on corporate governance matters and data protection related issues.  Sheryl contributed to the Singapore chapter in Financing Renewable Energy Projects: A Global Analysis and Review of Related Power Purchase Agreements published by the American Bar Association.

Case Highlights

  • Represented a Singapore company against a global aerospace company in an ICC arbitration seated in Madrid.

  • Represented a major Japanese multinational conglomerate corporation in a Singapore seated arbitration commenced by the joint venture partner of its operations in India.

  • Represented a Korean company and a Chinese company in a jurisdictional challenge before the Singapore High Court and Court of Appeal (BNA v BNB and another [2019] SGHC 142 and BNA v BNB and another [2020] 1 SLR 456).

  • Represented a defendant in a setting aside application of an arbitral award before the Singapore International Commercial Court (CPU v CPX [2022] 4 SLR 314).

  • Represented a former director and executive chairman of a construction company against the liquidator’s claims for breach of director duties (Poh Lian Construction (Pte) Ltd (in liquidation) v Lauw Wisanggeni and others (Chia Quee Hock and others, third parties) [2019] SGC 114).
